One of the three pivotal towns of the famous Blue Mountains (the other two are Katoomba and Leura), Wentworth Falls lies about 105km west of Sydney and offers all the magnificent mountain scenery and delightfully-decadent accommodation of this favourite holiday destination.
The town hosts Princes Rock Lookout, which provides spectacular views of the waterfalls, and Empress Lookout, offering different vistas down into the Valley of the Waters.
For the adventurous, there are some challenging walking tracks, and it’s not far to Leura and Katoomba for a lot more of the same... and more - like the enigmatic Three Sisters and Sublime Point lookout. Originally called Weatherboard after a hut built here in 1814, one year later the town was renamed Jamison’s Valley by Governor Macquarie.
In July 1867 the historic first railway journey within the Blue Mountains left Penrith station and travelled through to Weatherboard Station where the train terminated. It wasn’t until 1879 that the name of this town was changed to Wentworth Falls in honour of William Charles Wentworth, who, along with Gregory Blaxland and William Lawson, was credited with forging the first crossing of the Blue Mountains in 1813.
