The seaside village of Terrigal, on the NSW Central Coast, only an hour or so’s drive north of Sydney, has long been a favourite holiday haunt for the weary folk of the Big Smoke and country people alike.

Terrigal holiday informationTerrigal is graced by a great surfing beach and some stillwater lagoons to the south-west. The fishing is generally rewarding - from the local beaches and in nearby lakes and waterways, especially Tuggerah, Munmorah and Brisbane Waters. The first European settlement took place in 1826 when a settler by the name of John Gray called his property Tarrygal, after the Aboriginal name for the area which means 'place of little birds'.

In the 1870s a sawmill was built here which employed 120 men. Then dairying became popular, before tourism took over as the main industry, beginning in the late 1800s. The big city of Gosford is just a short drive away, as is the multi award-winning Australian Reptile Park.
