The Perth beachside suburb of Scarborough, about 12km west from the heart of the CBD, has undergone a transformation over recent years and is now one of the city's more desirable addresses. Site of the much-vaunted Radisson Observation City Resort Hotel, Scarborough supports one of Perth’s most popular beaches where wide expanses of golden sand are washed by the pristine waters of the Indian Ocean.
Rottnest Island - a favourite playground of Sandgropers and home to those midget kangaroo-like creatures called quokkas - is about 20km off the coast. The brilliant and historic port city of Fremantle, with its t historic buildings, wonderful waterfront, vibrant restaurants and numerous and varied watering holes is a 20-minute drive south of Scarborough. And it’s a short trip back into the centre of Perth city, one of the freshest and most appealing of Australia’s capitals. Perth, by the way, is one of few cities in the world to have a free City Clipper bus service.
Travel on all Transperth buses between the Causeway and Kings Park is also free.
