Oberon tourism information - Blue MountainsIn the western foothills of the Blue Mountains, just a three hour drive from Sydney, Oberon is an attractive town of almost 5,000 residents for whom the seasons are clearly defined and who can even look forward to the odd snowfall during winter.

For reasons unknown, the town takes its name from the King of the Fairies and the modern Oberon boasts good and varied shopping facilities and a reasonable choice of accommodation.

Trout fishing is the go out this way and most of the lakes and rivers are well-stocked with fish. The region also attracts its share of gold and gem fossickers.

The town is ringed by interesting villages and spectacular landforms. The Jenolan Caves, with their dramatic limestone stalagmites and stalactites which have fascinated millions of visitors since they were opened in 1866, are a comfortable, 30km drive to the southeast. The Jenolan State Forest and the nearby Kanangra Boyd National Park are wild and wonderful places with many interesting walking trails.
