Katoomba
Find family holiday accommodation in Katoomba
The largest and most famous of the Blue Mountains villages, Katoomba perches at the edge of the Murchison Valley, about 120km west of Sydney.
Apart from the magnificent scenery, and the wonders of such natural formations as The Three Sisters, Orphan Rock and Katoomba Falls, nearby is the gut-wrenching Scenic Railway which descends into the Jamison Valley at an average incline of 45 degrees.
Katoomba's centre is characterised by wall-to-wall tearooms, cafes, hotels and guesthouses, many of which have seen better days. In the second half of the 20th century, in fact, Katoomba tended to standstill while rival townships grabbed the major share of the tourist trade. To arrest Katoomba's slide, state, local government and tourist industry operators celebrated the new millennium by putting in place a plan to restore Katoomba and its grand hotels and guesthouses to their former glory.
