Find family holiday Accommodation in the Whitsunday Islands
Hamilton Island is the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays, and is situated 16 kilometres off the coast from Shute Harbour. The island is accessible by air or sea, with direct flights to the island from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns, while the boat trip from Shute Harbour is a trip of around 30 minutes. The average temperature in the summer months is 30 degrees Celsius, and in winter it is 23 degrees Celsius.
There is a wide range of accommodation available on the island, ranging from resort-style to self-catering apartments and villas. The Beach Club is a 5 star, beachfront boutique hotel, specialising in catering for couples (no children are permitted to stay in the Beach Club). The Reef View Hotel is rated 4 star, and offers both suite and room accommodation, some with spectacular views of the Coral Sea. The Palm Terrace is a 3 star hotel, built with the budget traveller in mind. The Palm Bungalows sleep up to 3, and are situated in tropical gardens near Catseye Beach. The Whitsunday Holiday Apartments are 1 and 2 bedroom hotel-style apartments located on the resort side of the island. Self-catering accommodation is also available in the Hamilton Island Villas. Located on the marina side of the island they offer a choice of Standard, Superior and Deluxe Villas ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms.
Hamilton Island has plenty of things to do - cruises to the Great Barrier Reef, waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing, tennis, whale watching, scuba diving, snorkelling and scenic flights. If your taste runs more to the relaxed, the resort has 6 swimming pools, one of which has a cocktail bar in the middle, or you can idly wander to, or between, the 16 restaurants, cafes and takeaway food outlets. Wandering sound like too much work? Then hire a golf buggy to get from A to B! For the nature lovers, over 80% of Hamilton Island is natural tropical bushland, and there are 7 bushwalking trails. Also on the island is a Fauna Park, containing kangaroos, emus, wombats, koalas, crocodiles and more.
Children can be entertained at the Hamilton Island Clownfish Club, the only fully accredited childcare facility in the Whitsundays. Parents can relax knowing that the children are enjoying safe, supervised, age-related adventures including arts and crafts, beachcombing, snorkelling, hiking, fishing, mini-golf and pool games. Additionally, babysitting can be arranged upon request.
